In order to implement the scientific and technological strategic spirit of innovation-driven development and strengthening basic research in the National 14th Five-Year Plan, under the guidance of the Hubei Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Wuhan University has insisted on facing the people's life and health. In accordance with the requirements of the "Healthy China 2030" planning outline, it has actively led the establishment of the Hubei Provincial Research Center for Chemical Basic Sciences, strengthened original leading scientific and technological research, and laid a solid foundation for scientific and technological independence and self-improvement. On December 26, 2022, the center was successfully approved for construction.

Hubei Chemical Basic Discipline Research Center is led by Wuhan University, jointly established by the Institute of Precision Measurement Science and Technology Innovation of China Academy of Sciences and Hubei University, with Academician Zhou Xiang as the director of the executive committee and Academician Liu Maili as the director of the academic committee. According to the principle of "establishing at the provincial level, relying on entities, strengthening cooperation and enhancing capabilities", the Center conducts basic research for the international scientific and technological frontier and the major national needs, gives full play to the advantages of chemistry as a central discipline, realizes cross-integration with life science, material science, medicine and other fields to carry out research, focuses on the technical bottleneck of life and healthy development, and provides important technical support for serving the goal of "Healthy China 2030".

Combined with their respective basic conditions and regional development orientation, the founding units of the center will jointly promote the development of chemistry discipline, promote the construction of talents in chemistry discipline, realize the synergistic effect of major regional scientific research platforms, serve major industrial needs, enhance the supporting capacity of regional innovation, extensively carry out international exchanges and cooperation, and actively enhance the international influence and core competitiveness of chemistry discipline. The center has a capable scientific research team with young and middle-aged backbone, complementary discipline structure and strong cohesion. There are 66 fixed personnel, including 2 academicians and 64 national talents. The center is established by the Hubei provincial government according to the national strategic deployment and regional development needs, and the Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Department is the competent unit of the center; The overall structure is divided into the Construction and Operation Management Committee, the Academic Committee and the Executive Committee. The Construction and Operation Management Committee is responsible for strategic planning and major decisions, the Academic Committee is responsible for academic guidance and suggestions, and the Executive Committee is responsible for daily work.
